Rural Educational Digital Divide Narrows

San Diego, CA – August 17, 2016 – Metric Systems Corporation, (www.metricsystems.com), a San Diego-based manufacturer of White Space Spectrum broadband networking solutions, announced that Teleco Systems demonstrated how a RaptorXR broadband TVWS back-haul link can provide a rural K-12 school with world class broadband service in a few hours with minimum site preparation and without extended height antennas.

The deployment objective was to validate that a city edge, Wisconsin K-12 school, could be connected with a 40 Mbps full-duplex useful internet link to a host school 2.5 miles away. The path between schools is totally obscured by heavy vegetation and buildings.

Deployment Overview

A point-to-point link solution was found using Radio Mobile and 3 meter SRTM data. To provide a reliable 40 Mbps link two 20 Mbps Full Duplex links would be aggregated using 4 of the 16 locally available UHF channels. The illustration below shows the path along with systems design parameters. Note the system design called for antenna heights of 47’ ASL and 40’ AGL, respectively. Test heights of 28’ ASL and 26’ AGL provided an error-less link.

About the RaptorXR

The RaptorXR is the industry’s first Full-Duplex White Space Spectrum Broadband Network Radio. With models available for operation in the VHF (174-216 MHz) and UHF (470—698 MHz) bands, the RaptorXR extends performance unavailable with microwave based solutions.

User configurable to operate in Point-to-Point or ad hoc mesh configurations, the RaptorXR supports nearly any network topology connectivity requirement with Full-Duplex rates from 6 to 60mbps. Channel bonding and aggregation provide enhanced transfer rates and path redundancy in demanding geographies and topographies. (www.metricsystems.com/raptorxr-extended-range/)
